Test materials:
1 pair Mizuno Waverunner 6 (Shoes are women's size 7).
1 ShoeWallet (pink).
1 pair Nike Air Zoom+ (the ones made specifically for the iPod sensor).
1 Nike+iPod Sport kit.
1 Treadmill.
Test 1a:
Treadmill vs. ShoeWallet.
Used Mizuno + ShoeWallet, and uncalibrated Nike+iPod sport kit.
Ran 0.25 mile on treadmill. iPod sensor claimed I ran 0.30 miles.
Test 1b.
Treadmill vs. Nike Air Zoom+.
Moved the iPod sensor to the Nike Air Zoom+ (therefore, using same uncalibrated sensor).
Ran 0.25 mile on treadmill. iPod sensor claimed I ran 0.30 miles.
Conclusion:
No significant difference between sensor in ShoeWallet and sensor in special Nike shoe.
Test 2a:
Street running vs. ShoeWallet.
Used Mizuno + Shoewallet, and CALIBRATED Nike + iPod kit.
Ran 0.76 miles, according to iPod.
Test 2b:
Street running vs. Nike Air Zoom+.
Moved sensor out of shoe wallet and into Nike Air Zoom+. Ran same street loop.
iPod sensor records 0.76 miles.
Conclusion:
Even if you calibrate the sensor to the Shoewallet, there is no significant difference in accuracy
between having the sensor in the ShoeWallet and the sensor in the Nike+ shoes.
Caveats:
Have not had a chance to run a longer distance yet...so any small discrepancies may be more
significant when the mileage is greater. However, I'm pretty happy with the results.
